Introduction
The SCB Scientific Committee works with the Board of Governors (BOG), its standing committees, editors, and staff, to implement SCB strategic goals regarding all science-related activities of the Society. Its purpose is to "focus SCB's efforts to improve the quantity and quality of conservation research and enhance the use of that science in management, education, and policy." (SCB 2005, pg. 3).

- In collaboration with the Publications Committee and editors and staff of the journal, provide guidance on the present and future strategies for the society’s scientific publications, with particular attention to scientific scope.
- Work with the Development Committee, seek innovative ways of making scientific evidence available for use in policy and practice.
- Assist the Education Committee and Sections to review the global provision of conservation science education.
- On an annual basis report to the BoG on all aspects of the Society’s scientific work, highlighting successes, opportunities, gaps and, where relevant, recommending actions for elements of the work programme.
