Course Description: During the first days at the field site course participants learn about safety, research ethics, and how to collect and manipulate spatial data while navigating one of the most diverse tropical rainforests on the planet. The next 8 days consist of participants completing 2 of 3 specialized modules in herpetology, ornithology, or primatology taught by experts in each discipline. Modules include evening lectures and discussions of scientific articles, as well as daily activities that explore natural history, research methodologies, and ongoing conservation issues. During the last third of the course, participants learn tree climbing to access higher strata of forest and partake in excursions to a palm swamp, oxbow lake, mammal clay lick, and canopy tower. Grades and certificates of completion are based on participation, assignments, and short exams.
