Interactive Grant Writing Workshop with the National Geographic Society

The National Geographic Society (NGS) will be hosting an in-person and interactive workshop to assist potential applicants in developing project ideas and application materials while fostering collaboration and innovation. This 1.5 day workshop will be held on July 26 and 27, 2019, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The workshop is free for participants and NGS will cover meals on workshop days for workshop attendees (breakfast, lunch and snacks). Space will be limited to 24 participants.

NGS grants are open on a quarterly basis. NGS funds applications in a wide variety of scientific disciplines focused on three main areas: Changing Planet, Wildlife, and Human Journey. Grant opportunities fall under the constituents of conservation, education, research, storytelling, and technology. In addition, NGS hosts Requests for Proposals to address current environmental and socioeconomic challenges. For more information on what NGS funds, and for an application form, please see: What We Fund.

Important:  In order to apply to the workshop, potential participants are expected to submit an expression of interest form and a complete grant application for review by May 30th, 2019.

Purpose of the Workshop

The workshop is intended to provide information about and practice developing key attributes of a successful NGS grant. Participants will receive one on one feedback on their projects from NGS grants staff. In addition, the in-person workshop will encourage collaborations across disciplines and sectors to help cultivate new ideas and innovation. The workshop will provide an opportunity for individuals to interact and help each other develop and improve project ideas, and connect potential grantees with NGS personnel.

Attendee Eligibility

The NGS welcomes workshop applications from individuals residing in any country in Asia.

All attendees must have completed and submitted an expression of interest and a NGS grant application by May 30, 2019

Previous applicants to NGS grant opportunities within the last two years that did not succeed in receiving funding are also strongly encouraged to apply (and do not need to re-submit a grant application, unless they would like to).
