ICCB 2025 field trips and local activities will give attendees an opportunity to experience the natural wonders of Queensland, Australia’s most biodiverse state. Pre and post-congress field trips and local activities will explore interesting sights in and out of Meanjin/Brisbane. 


Join Us for a Unique Dinner at the Queensland Museum

We are thrilled to invite you to an extraordinary evening during the International Congress for Conservation Biology 2025. This is not your typical dinner or cocktail party—it's a unique reception designed to delight all your senses as you roam the museum. 

What to Expect:

Dress Code: The event will take place in both indoor and outdoor areas. Please dress accordingly and remember, it's winter in Brisbane. Temperatures can drop to 10 degrees Celsius, so bring something warm, especially if you're coming from the northern hemisphere!

Discover Meanjin/Brisbane and Queensland Wonders Beyond the Conference

A conference is a fabulous place for sharing research, learning from each other, and networking with peers. It is also a fantastic time to immerse yourself in the local flora, fauna, and culture of your host city of Brisbane or Meanjin, as named by Turrbal people, one of two traditional owner groups of the area.

We are delighted to welcome you to our exclusive suite of field trip offers, designed to enrich your conference experience with unforgettable adventures when you immerse yourself in Brisbane’s vibrant culture and Queensland’s stunning flora and fauna. We invite you to explore our diverse range of field trips and register your interest today so we know what to offer more of!

Whether you are passionate about experiencing nature while in Meanjin/Brisbane, eager to learn about local heritage, or simply looking to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city, we have a trip that suits your interests. 

We intend to offer short excursions during the weekend before and during the conference week, with short and long trips that include overnight options for the weekend after the conference.

Brisbane City Highlights

Discover ‘Brissy’s’ beautiful sights and learn some local history, for example its 22,000 year settlement by the Turrbal and Yuggera people, its time as the Moreton Bay penal colony and its intention to become the Olympic City of 2032. Now home to a population of almost 2.5 million, Brisbane is considered one of the world’s most liveable cities.

Early Morning Nature Walks

Start your day early with a refreshing nature walk led by renowned experts. Experience the beauty of the morning as you explore serene trails, learning about Australian species and their habitats.

Brisbane River

 

Kayaking

Embark on a kayaking tour along the picturesque Brisbane River for an unparalleled grounding experience. Paddling through the calm waters offers a unique perspective of the city and a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration, allowing you to connect with nature and unwind amidst the scenic beauty of Brisbane.

Duration: 2.5 hours total with 90 minutes on the water

Experience the magic of Australia's wildlife with a trip to a koala sanctuary.

 

Koala Sanctuary and Mount Coot-tha

This adventure combines education, conservation, and the sheer joy of experiencing Australia's incredible biodiversity. Experience the magic of Australia's wildlife with a trip to Brisbane’s Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Learn about koala conservation efforts and the sanctuary's important role in protecting these iconic marsupials. The Sanctuary is also home to many other native Australian animals, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts who would love to feed and pat a kangaroo. To finish the trip, stop at the Mount Coot-tha outlook to enjoy sweeping views of Brisbane.

Curtis Falls in Tamborine National Park

 

Tamborine Mountain

Tamborine is a local mountain hideaway with lush, sub-tropical rainforest, sparkling clean air, and stunning views. Take a guided eco-walk through Curtis Falls Rainforest Circuit, featuring superb strangler figs and ending at a picturesque waterfall and rock pool. Enjoy lunch at a historic hotel with lovely valley views and optional wine tasting in the village. Visit 'Eagles Close' for breathtaking views over the Gold Coast and the Hang Gliding Lookout for vistas of the Scenic Rim and either walk the MacDonald Rainforest Circuit with lush groves of piccabean palms or stroll through the mountain village.

Natural Bridge in Springbook National Park

 

UNESCO Springbrook Rainforests & Waterfalls

Experience an unforgettable tour of Australia's World Heritage-listed rainforests, and see waterfalls up to 107m/350 feet high. Walk through the 'Green Cauldron' with ancient 'Gondwana' forests and diverse ecosystems, spot mini wallabies (pademelons), and delight in breathtaking views of valleys and the Gold Coast. Tree Top Walk in Lamington National Park

Two-Day Tamborine Mountain and Lamington National Parks Tour 

Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Australia's 'Green Cauldron', featuring stunning mountain scenery and lush World Heritage-listed rainforests. Embark on guided walks to spectacular lookouts over deep valleys, the Scenic Rim, and the Gold Coast, while spotting local wildlife. Experience the thrill of the treetop walk at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, feed colourful native birds and explore the charming mountain village of Tamborine. Along the way, discover the volcanic origins of these majestic mountains.
