A conference is a fabulous place for sharing research, learning from each other, and networking with peers. It is also a fantastic time to immerse yourself in the local flora, fauna, and culture of your host city of Brisbane or Meanjin, as named by Turrbal people, one of two traditional owner groups of the area.
We are delighted to welcome you to our exclusive suite of field trip offers, designed to enrich your conference experience with unforgettable adventures when you immerse yourself in Brisbane’s vibrant culture and Queensland’s stunning flora and fauna.
Whether you are passionate about experiencing nature while in Meanjin/Brisbane, eager to learn about local heritage, or simply looking to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city, we have a trip that suits your interests.
We understand the demands of a busy conference schedule, which is why we offer walks and shorter excursions during the conference week as well as longer field trips on weekends before and after the conference. This flexible timing ensures you have the opportunity to take part in these enriching experiences at your convenience.
Our suite of field trips on offer just for ICCB delegates includes short, single day and multi day trip options – please find all details of field trips currently on offer below!

Guided walk on Billai Dhagun Track
Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre
Join experienced guides on a walk through the stunning Boondall Wetlands Reserve. Learn about the unique plants and animals of the wetlands on this gentle, easy, all abilities 2km walk. Participants can visit the bird hide, observe distinct changes in vegetation, and discover why Boondall Wetlands is an internationally important conservation area.
Nature Journaling
Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre
Nature journaling is the practice of recording your interactions with nature using sketches, writing, paintings, poetry, species lists, numbers, graphs, cartoons and more. Environment centre staff will guide you through some fun, simple exercises at this introductory session. Nature journaling is an easy, relaxing practice and encourages mindfulness, hones observation skills, and cultivates a sense of wonder. Close observation and recording of the natural world can be a wonderful form of meditative expression, and provides an opportunity for stillness, reflection, and mindful connection with nature.
All materials provided, but please bring your own basic sketch/art pad so you can keep your creations in one place.
After the workshop, visit the environment centre or remain in the reserve to continue working on your nature journal.
