Visits LACA 2024

On November 29, the day is dedicated to leaving the university and visiting areas of interest in Quito. You will have the opportunity to explore two important ex situ conservation centers as well as the historic center of the city. These visits are part of the congress and are included in your registration. We encourage you to sign up soon, as spots are limited!

1. Quito Zoo

Take the opportunity to visit the Quito Zoo, one of the leading wildlife rescue centers in Ecuador. Its main objectives include environmental education, the rehabilitation of rescued animals, and their eventual release back into the wild. During our visit, we will explore this incredible facility and have the chance to tour the veterinary clinic.

While most of the animals at the zoo belong to Ecuador’s native fauna, you will also find species from other countries and continents. The Quito Zoo is located in the rural parish of Guayllabamba, just 40 minutes from Quito.

2.Vivarium of Quito

Enjoy a unique experience with live amphibians and reptiles. Quito Vivarium is a non-profit NGO dedicated to the conservation of Ecuadorian amphibians and reptiles.  Its goal is to raise environmental awareness about the threats these animals face. In the Quito vivarium exhibit you will be able to see about 40 species of amphibians and reptiles, a sample of Ecuador's diversity. It is located in Av. Río Amazonas, Quito.

3. Historic Center of Quito

4. Museums of the Faculty of Biology PUCE

Description: We invite you to join this fascinating visit to the museums of the Faculty of Biology, where you will have the opportunity to explore unique scientific collections and learn about the biodiversity of our country. During the visit, we will explore: The Herpetology Museum, which houses a unique collection of amphibians and reptiles. The QCA Herbarium, where we will learn about the richness of local flora and its importance for conservation and botanical studies. The QCAZ Invertebrate Zoology Museum, featuring an exhibition of fascinating insects essential for ecological balance. The Balsa de los Sapos, a project focused on preserving endangered amphibians, emphasizing conservation and research programs.

5. Jardin Botanico de Quito

Description: The Quito Botanical Garden, located in the heart of Ecuador's capital, is a vibrant space dedicated to the conservation, education, and exhibition of Ecuador's rich plant biodiversity. Nestled within La Carolina Park, it spans 18,600 square meters and showcases diverse ecosystems, including cloud forests, páramos, and tropical rainforests.
