The field trip packages listed below are higher end. We are also working together with the Local Organizing Committee to design some more budget friendy trips in and around Kigali.
Flexible Field Trip Packages
Please note that each trip has a detailed itinerary that the tour companies will provide once you connect with them. For example, here is a detailed itineray for a field trip to Akagera National Park, and here's one for a Uganda gorilla safari. Itineraries can be amended based on your interests and budget. Please plan your field trips for either before or after the congress, and when possible avoid taking field trips during the main scientific program.

If you're booking one of these field trips, it's recommended that you book at least three weeks before the trip. If it's for gorilla trekking, book at your earliest convenience, as there are a limited number of gorilla permits allotted for each day.
Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Volcanoes National Park is a forested area in the Virunga Mountains that borders Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The mist-covered volcanoes of Virunga are one of only two locations in the world where you can track a habituated family group of mountain gorillas! The mountains also offer incredible hiking and you can often also see golden monkeys here. ** Gorilla Trekking may require a letter of invitation from ICCB 2023. Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park, Uganda
Length: Three day trip

Seeing Volcanoes National Park through Uganda is often a less expensive way to go gorilla trekking than it is to go through Rwanda. ** Gorilla Trekking may require a letter of invitation from ICCB 2023. Akagera National Park
Length: Day trip, two days one night

Akagera National Park is in the north east of Rwanda and borders Tanzania. It gets its name from the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary before feeding into lakes. It is Rwanda's largest National Park and is home to leopards, hyena, jackal, giraffes, elephants, hippos and more.
Kings Palace & National Museum

A reconstruction of the traditional royal residence, the King’s Palace is a beautifully-crafted thatched dwelling shaped like a beehive. In olden times, Nyanza was the heart of Rwanda. According to oral tradition, it was the site of battles and power struggles.
Nyamirambo Women Centre & City Tour of Kigali

Nyamirambo Women’s Center (NWC), a Rwandan NGO, was launched at the end of 2007 by 18 Rwandese women living in Nyamirambo, Kigali. Together they created a project which aimed to address gender-based violence, gender inequality and discrimination. Today, NWC’s mission is to provide education and vocational training to women who do not have the means to pay for such training on their own, so that they can gain better opportunities for employment.
