Kathmandu to Host Asia’s Leading Conservation Congress in June 2026
Kathmandu, Nepal — The Society for Conservation Biology Asia Region, in partnership with the SCB Nepal Chapter and the Burhan Community Regeneration and Conservation Foundation (BCRCF), will host the 6th Conservation Asia Congress (CAC Nepal 2026) from 3–5 June 2026 in Kathmandu.
Held under the theme “Harmonising Biodiversity and Human Well-being in Asia,” the Congress will bring together a diverse community of conservation scientists, practitioners, policymakers, local leaders, students, and media representatives from across Asia and beyond.
“This Congress provides a vital platform to connect science, policy, and practice across Asia. By bringing together diverse voices, we aim to foster meaningful collaboration and develop solutions to the region’s most pressing biodiversity challenges,” said Koustubh Sharma, President of the SCB Asia Region.
Participants will share cutting-edge research, practical experiences, and innovative tools to address critical conservation issues facing the region.
Set against the backdrop of Nepal’s extraordinary natural and cultural heritage, Kathmandu offers an inspiring setting for advancing dialogue and collaboration. Nepal is globally recognised as a biodiversity hotspot and a leader in community-based conservation, making it an ideal host for this landmark event.
CAC Nepal 2026 also marks a significant milestone, representing a return to the birthplace of the first regional conference of the Society for Conservation Biology in 2005.
“Hosting CAC Nepal 2026 is both a proud moment and a meaningful homecoming. It reflects how far conservation efforts in our region have come, while reinforcing our shared responsibility to build a more sustainable future,” said Prakash K. Paudel, President of the SCB Nepal Chapter.
The Congress is expected to convene over 400 participants from more than 25 Asian countries, fostering cross-sector collaboration and knowledge exchange. Attendees will engage in scientific sessions, workshops, symposia, poster presentations, and networking events designed to catalyse partnerships and scale impactful conservation solutions.
In line with its commitment to inclusivity, CAC Nepal 2026 offers tiered registration and travel support, enabling participation from nearly 200 early-career conservationists and practitioners from low- and middle-income countries across Asia.
“Supporting participation from across the region, especially early-career conservationists, is central to our mission. CAC Nepal 2026 is about building an inclusive and collaborative community that can drive lasting impact for biodiversity and people,” said Dakshina Khadka of the Burhan Community Regeneration and Conservation Foundation.
By convening leading voices and emerging changemakers, CAC Nepal 2026 aims to strengthen regional cooperation and accelerate efforts to safeguard biodiversity while supporting human well-being across Asia.
