Timely appearance of scientific research is important, especially in crisis disciplines such as conservation science. To that end and to keep pace with rapidly changing trends in scientific publishing, accepted Conservation Biology manuscripts are now being posted online before editing and typesetting in what our publisher, Wiley Blackwell, calls “Accepted Articles.”
Manuscripts will appear online within approximately one week from the time they were accepted. This new procedure will substantially reduce the time between acceptance and public access to the work for most manuscripts that appear in Conservation Biology.
Editing, typesetting, and proof corrections will proceed as in the past, but they will follow posting of the Accepted Article. The final, copy-edited version will supplant the Accepted Article once a paper appears in Early View. Later, as space allows, articles will be placed in hard copy issues.
Accepted Article publication reflects the increasing proportion of readers wanting the most up-to-date information possible and the growing enthusiasm for rapid publication among authors. It also anticipates authors’ self-archiving on personal websites. It responds to requests from many editors, authors, readers and SCB members for Conservation Biology to be responsive to rapidly changing norms in scientific publishing.
