Conservation work benefits from opportunities to come together: to share what we’re learning, ask difficult questions, and hear from people approaching similar challenges in different ways. Next June, the conservation community will gather in Puebla, Mexico, to do just that!
The Society for Conservation Biology’s 33rd International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2027) will take place 27 June–1 July 2027, and the Call for Proposals and Call for Abstracts are now open. We invite researchers, practitioners, students, and others working in conservation to contribute their ideas and help shape the program.
You might have research you’re ready to share, a project that would benefit from feedback, or a conversation you’ve been wanting to bring colleagues together for. ICCB offers several ways to get involved.
Organize a Session
Session proposals are welcome for symposia, forums, training courses, and workshops. The deadline to submit is 3 December 2026.
Symposia bring people together to explore a particular conservation theme or issue. Alongside sessions featuring invited talks, organizers can propose interactive formats built around dialogue, storytelling, small-group activities, and other ways of exchanging knowledge. There is also an option to pair a symposium with a roundtable discussion, giving participants more time to work through the ideas raised and consider what comes next.
If you have a practical skill to share or a challenge that needs some collective attention, consider proposing a training course, workshop, or forum. Training courses provide structured opportunities to build conservation skills, while workshops give participants space to explore and apply approaches together. Forums focus on working toward a specific outcome, such as a policy briefing, publication, research agenda, or collaborative initiative.
Think about what you would like participants to learn, contribute, or take away from your session, and choose the format that best supports that goal.
Present Your Work
We are also accepting abstracts for oral talks, speed talks, and poster presentations through 11 February 2027. Abstracts should be no more than 250 words.
Oral talks are suited to completed or substantially developed research, with 10 minutes to present followed by two minutes for questions. Speed talks offer a shorter introduction to a research project or idea and are especially useful for emerging work or preliminary findings. Breakout discussions afterward give presenters and attendees a chance to continue the conversation and exchange feedback.
Poster presentations welcome both emerging and developed research and conservation projects. They offer time for the individual conversations that can be harder to fit into a talk, whether that means discussing a method, asking a follow-up question, or finding someone interested in collaborating.
You do not need to have every answer to contribute something valuable. Sharing work in progress can open up useful conversations and help inform your next steps.
Making Room for More Languages
We are working to make ICCB 2027 as language inclusive as possible and expect to organize sessions in Spanish. If you would prefer to present in another language, you can indicate that on your abstract submission form.
These preferences will help us organize sessions and explore ways to support participation across languages. Although we cannot guarantee that every preference will be accommodated, we encourage you to let us know.
How to Submit
To get started, sign in to your ICCB 2027 profile using your SCB credentials. If you are a current or former SCB member, or have attended an ICCB or SCB Group congress before, you already have credentials. New users can create an account and will be redirected to their ICCB profile.
Please review the session descriptions and frequently asked questions before submitting, including the rules on how many proposals and presentations each person may submit.
Two dates to keep in mind:
- 3 December 2026: Deadline for session proposals
- 11 February 2027: Deadline for contributed presentation abstracts
We look forward to seeing what you’re working on and welcoming you to Puebla.
