Nominations due by 12 April
SCB is excited to announce the call for nominations for our 2024 Group Service Awards program that honors individuals or institutions for outstanding contributions to biodiversity conservation.
Hosted by the Society’s Regions, Working Groups, and Marine Global Program, SCB Group Awards recognize individuals, groups, or institutions for distinguished service in any field associated with conservation biology and whose work furthers SCB’s mission to advance the science and practice of conserving biodiversity.
Nomination submissions for six SCB Groups are currently open through 12 April. While SCB membership is not mandatory for nominees, it is encouraged and valued.
Please see below for more information about each participating SCB Group, their respective awards and the nominations form (self-nominations are accepted).
Nominees should be members of the Group that is presenting the award for which they’re nominated or be conducting conservation work in the Group’s region / topic.
2024 SCB Group Service Awards
Group Distinguished Service Awards (DSA) recognize individuals or institutions whose work advances the science and practice of conserving biodiversity.
- The Social Science Working Group intends to present its Distinguished Service Award at the European Congress for Conservation Biology.
- The Africa Region’s Distinguished Service Award is the Young Women in Conservation Biology Award. The Region tentatively plans to present the award at the Africa Congress for Conservation Biology later this year, pending final confirmation.
- The Oceania Region tentatively plans to present its Distinguished Service Award at the Hawai’i Conservation Conference, pending final confirmation.
- The Marine Global Program’s Distinguished Service Award will be presented this October at the International Marine Conservation Congress.
Group Early Career Conservationist Awards honor achievements in conservation by professionals early in their careers (no more than 10 years since leaving school). There is no age criteria for this award.
- The Europe Region’s Early Career Conservationist Award will be presented at the European Congress for Conservation Biology. The deadline for this award is 31 March 2024. This award also has a different submission process. Please submit here.
Group Edward T. LaRoe Memorial Awards recognize the application of science to resource management and policy and goes to individuals who translate principles of conservation biology into real-world conservation. Preference is given to current or former employees of government agencies or individuals who have spent at least part of their career in public service.
- The North America Region’s Edward T. LaRoe Memorial Award will be presented at the North American Congress for Conservation Biology.

You may nominate yourself or someone else, including groups / institutions.
All nominations require a letter of recommendation. To apply:
- Complete the SCB 2024 Group Service Awards Nomination Form by 12 April 2024.
