Member News

SSWG Board and Working Group members Doug Clark (University of Saskatchewan) and Rebecca Garvoille (Denver Zoo) were appointed to the IUCN North American Bison Specialist Group. They will lead a social science working group to advance the human dimensions of bison recovery. SSWG Board member Meredith Gore (Michigan State University) began a Jefferson Science Fellowship in the U.S. Department of State working on wildlife trafficking; illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing; and social science diplomacy.

2016 Conservation Social Science Award Winner Selected

Erin Harper (Colorado State University, U.S. Department of Agriculture) was awarded the 2016 Conservation Social Science Award. This competitive award recognizes a SSWG graduate student member's professional contributions to SSWG and the field of conservation social science.

Did you know that the IUCN has a Social Science for Conservation Fellowship Programme? Read more about this exciting new program and browse its Working Papers series on the IUCN website. The National Bird Conservation Initiative hired a new Social Science Coordinator with the goal of increasing a meaningful integration of social science in bird conservation.
