SCB Europe Section Hosting 5th European Congress of Conservation Biology

The 5th European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB2018) is being held in Jyvaskyla, Finland, between 12 and 15 June 2018. The city of Jyväskylä is in the heart of the boreal zone, and globally is one of the very few places able to host a large congress like ECCB in a truly boreal setting. Jyväskylä is surrounded by boreal forests, peatlands, and lakes with plenty of wildlife.

The main theme of ECCB2018 is "Planetary wellbeing" – a concept that captures the necessity to consider the integrity and sustainability of Earth's ecosystems as well as the wellbeing of humans. ECCB2018 provides a forum to discuss and develop solutions for some of the greatest challenges faced by humanity by bringing together natural and social scientists, practitioners, industry members and government decision-makers.

ECCB2018 focuses on conservation and sustainable management of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, including inland lakes with an aspiration to balance nature conservation and human resource exploitation for planetary wellbeing.

The conference is organized by the Europe Section of the Society for Conservation Biology and the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. For questions about the ECCB2018, please contact us at eccb2018@conbio.org.
