In 2014 the World Fish Migration Foundation launched the first World Fish Migration Day (WFMD) with the aim of creating awareness about the importance of free-flowing rivers and fish migration. More than a thousand organizations in 50 countries coordinated activities for WFMD 2014, which resulted in raised awareness and engagement with communities and policy makers. This year marks the 2nd WFMD, being held on 21st May with the aim of activating citizens around the world to take action and to create awareness and commitment for free flowing rivers and open swimways for migratory fishes.
